Our Homeschool Journey

So a friend of mine called me today and was telling me about a sign that her hubby saw at our local bulk food store, “We reserve the right to ration our food.” Or something to that effect. I had seen a news article online about people rationing food but I honestly thought it was a rumor and that it didn’t really mean anything. But then this sign is at one of our local stores! Come one! What’s the world coming to? What are we in the great depression all over again?!! So her hubby wanted her to buy extra flour, oil and rice. When I got off the phone I was trying to decide when I could get to the store to buy “extra” flour, oil and rice. Then I started thinking, how often do I use flour and rice? Not often! But still, if there is a ration going on then by golly I *need* to buy “extra”. LOL!

About this time, we were listening to one of the boys’ scripture music CD’s. Mtthew 6:26 was the scripture they were singing, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

I just had to laugh at myself for thinking such foolish thoughts. Even if there were rations going on, doesn’t my Father know I would need these things? And if He knew, wouldn’t He provide these things for my family?

There are so many stresses and worries about the economy and about where our country is headed, I just want to encourage you not to worry. “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” What good does worry do? Proverbs says it only causes harm. You are of more value than the birds of the air, your Heavenly Father knows what you have need of and will supply!

I am guilty of worry, but I’m so glad that He by His Holy Spirit reminds of things He has said in His word! If you get a chance pop over to visit my friend Renae and read her post found here Life Nurturing Education  you will be encouraged by who God provides.

  1. Thanks for mentioning me.

Food rations are weird. People try to buy more, but maybe they would get farther by using less.

We were some of those who stocked up for Y2K. We lived in the middle of nowhere Idaho, so we knew if the country lost power it wouldn’t be restored to us for months. Well, three years later we still had beans in buckets and the last of the wheat got bug infested. (I would have used more of it, but we went to YWAM right after that.)I look back and frown at our prepared waste.
