Welcome Back Class!

Today was our “official” first day of “school”. It actually was a fun day for all! We did not start our curriculum (Heart of Dakota) today. Since I am teaching 3 this year, I thought I would ease my way into the full schedule. We had started a butterfly study last week so we continued that today. Each child also created his own calendar, set up his notebook, complete with his Handwriting Without Tears chart and phonics chart (upper and lower case). We had circle time where I reviewed addition facts 1-4 and taught on telling time from a wall poster I bought at Dollar Tree.

My oldest read one of his favorite stories, Little Bear’s Birthday Soup (his favorite character is Duck). I then read Henry and Mudge for story time. Even though it doesn’t seem like we “did” all that much, it took up all morning. All in all I would say this was a successful start to a new year.

Though we did not do a Bible study, we did pray for our new school year and dedicated it and ourselves to the Lord. We also spent time in prayer for our cousins and our friends that will be or have started back to school too.

I am looking forward to this new year. It will be dedicated to the Lord for the nurturing and rearing of our children. We will focus on the heart and determine in our hearts to be the right example for them to follow. Teaching has to begin with me. My actions speak louder than words! I was reminded of this in my devotions this morning.

“As parents what we are makes a greater impact on our children than what we say.”

    Summer,
What devotional is that quote from?

And my girls enjoy Little Bear stories, too. They are so sweet. Looking forward to the time they will be able to read them.

    Blessings on your school year!

    Renae,
That quote is from “A Mother’s Heart” by Jean Fleming. It’s in chapter 3, “Start with Yourself”. It was a treasure I found on paperbackswap.com!

Just glancing around your blog and noticed you are at least Principle Approach inspired as well? How cool!

Hi Dana. Yes, I am PA inspired. I do belong to the BP Yahoo! group as well so I recognize you from there. I just have not had the time to adequately study to prepare myself. My MIL had been sick and I was caring for her but she has since gone on to be with Jesus. So now I have more time to devote to study for myself so I will see how the Lord leads me. Thanks for stopping by!
